Completely Independant & Proffesionally Qualified Male & Female Staff
Hello. I’m Hayley and I own and run a small and independent funeral business in York, where I’m from. I offer a very personal service, supporting people through some of the most difficult times of their lives. I’m available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
I’m female and I’m young - both rather unusual in this sector - but I’ve already been involved with funerals for many years and am both a qualified funeral director and a qualified embalmer. As a teenager I did some work experience with a funeral director which gave me a real insight into this world. I realised then that this was what I wanted to do.
When I left school I worked in pubs and at a taxi company, and also started a cleaning business. This gave me the necessary cash to study at The Yorkshire School of Embalming in West Yorkshire. After four years there, where I passed all my exams, I became a qualified embalmer. I then went to Norfolk and became a qualified funeral director.
In all, I studied for around eight years and I now have a small and very trusted business. And I was extremely proud to become chairwoman of the Yorkshire division of the British Institute of Embalmers in 2017.
I am happy to discuss funeral arrangements in your own home or in my office; it’s entirely up to you. I personally take care of everything, from a simple cremation to a burial at sea, giving advice throughout the whole process. I offer traditional, bespoke, and modern funerals, including ‘green’ funerals. I also offer a direct cremation service (where there is no funeral service).
Finally, our fees may not be the lowest in York but that is because I have a whole string of qualifications in funeral arranging, directing and embalming. I really do know what I’m doing. Others may not have these qualifications as there are no regulations or restrictions in the UK on who can conduct a funeral. Unfortunately, anyone can just set themselves up in business.
Do give me a call for free advice, with no obligation at all. I’m warm and friendly, and always respectful and discreet. And, I’m at your service.
All the very best
Hayley Owen DIP FD MBIE
I will be expecting a busy year in 2017 as I am Chairwoman of the Yorkshire division
a great honour and well deserved from hard work and consistency to support the association.
Although not everyone gets embalmed I believe in giving the correct care and dignity to the deceased and being an embalmer means I look after loved ones to a high standard so
presentation of the person is always the best it can be.
The British Institute of Embalmers was founded in 1927 by a group of 15 Funeral Directors who recognised the need for a separate organisation for the professional embalmer..
