The Last Mile in Style - Daimler DS420 Hearses
The Daimler DS420 Hearse has been, for many years, the typical English hearse, dominating the funeral profession in the UK and throughout the Commonwealth. It has been used for many Royal funerals, including the funeral of Diana Princess of Wales, on 6th September 1997 and for the funeral of the Queen Mother (2002). With their high-up coffin position and large windows they truly offer 'The Last Mile in Style'.
The hearse
Our fleet includes two of the few remaining DS420 hearses to offer you that something extra. Our prestigious Daimler's are some of the finest vehicles of their kind left in the country. These were the last of the "real limousines’ built by Daimler and were built strictly to order. Building only 4141 between 1968 and 1992 they were the popular choice of Heads of State, Ministry of Defence and Government Agencies throughout the entire world.
Most were supplied in Burgundy and Black and, as such, were chosen by the countries finest Funeral Directors and Carriage Masters. The Royal Mews ran three of these at any one time and were the Queen Mothers favourite car, so much so, she ordered five. Despite most of their numbers being supplied in black, it is now by far the rarest vehicle to find with estimated figures saying only around 10 remain on the road in the country, with more than half of the 4141 are now scrapped, making this a sought after vehicle by collectors the world over.
The limousines
The Daimler limousines complement our hearse in matching black over burgundy and comfortably transport up to four family members from their chosen address to the funeral, then on to the venue for refreshments afterwards.
Our private ambulance
Our private ambulance has been converted to our exacting specifications to transfer your loved one from place of death to our private Chapel of Rest.
Our team of uniformed staff are available at any time, day or night, throughout the year to attend to your loved one wherever the death has occurred. The vehicles they use are equipped with top-of-the-range collapsible Ferno stretchers as used by NHS paramedic services.
